Hey Ben, so tell me…
What's a typical day look like for you?
Waking my computer from sleep. Supporting our small team of 3 total to carry out regular; data gathering, processing, analysing and reporting tasks as required. Solving problems primarily in Excel, with some Power Automate here and there.
What is your favourite power platform app or feature and why?
I have an ever increasing obsession with Excel & VBA. Microsoft Excel has been integral to the way we operate and store/manage data at our client sites and I have come to love expressing myself through the work that I do with it and being able to serve my fellow humans.
What do you love most about working in this industry?
Everything in tech is constantly evolving and there is always something new to learn or be fascinated by.
How did you get into the tech industry?
I've always been hovering in and around it in one way or another but haven't typically been a hyper specialist. I moulded my way into my current role by being curious and driven at my core and things falling into place naturally thanks to being recognised by my peers for my efforts.
What single bit of advice would you give a newbie to the industry?
Embrace your curiosity and allow yourself the patience to find a way.
If you had an autobiography, what would you title it?
Full Time Human Being. Party Time Dancer.
Name one hobby or other interest you have outside of tech?
Psychology.
Name one thing that you would like to have achieved within the next 5 years.
A greater level of competence so that I can expand my reach.
Do you have any role models within the industry? If so, could you name a few?
Oh so many, I simply cannot mention them all.Excel/VBA - Randy Austin has had the most impact on my journey so far.Power Automate - Damian Bird has been the most influential for the limited work I've done with this.We are absolutely spoilt to have mentors such as these at our fingertips and I enjoy assimilating their content.
