Hey Carl, so tell me….
What's a typical day look like for you?
6am wake up and straight to the gym for a workout. Protein rich breakfast followed by checking LinkedIn and checking my Forex and Stock Market Charts for any alerts that went off overnight. Meetings, calls, messages from then onwards both internally and externally. Food is very much at the forefront of my mind when working from home so a snack around 11, with a large lunch at 1:30 followed by dinner about 5:30. As the working day winds to a close, this allows me to take care of business matters with everything P365. I have never been a fan of hats however seems I can find quite a few virtual ones on my head, along with keeping the plates spinning simultaneously. I will force myself away from my laptop for the last hour of the day around 9pm, to chill out and watch an episode on Netflix no doubt before retiring to bed around 10pm, because sleep is important kids!
What is your favourite power platform feature and why?
The whole plethora of tools surrounding AI, I find it fascinating and mind-blowing what AI can now achieve and only see this getting greater as time goes on. The latest release of unstructured documents analysis is a gamechanger in my eyes.
How did you get into the tech industry?
Having joined the RAF in 2012, I chose the trade IT & Communications as I found that I rather knowledgeable when it came to computers, fast forward 10 years later it made complete sense to leave and get into the world of Microsoft having using the software in a limited capability during my time in the military.
What single bit of advice would you give a newbie to the industry?
Do not look up to someone in the industry and set your goals and targets to climb their ladder, to get to the top and realise, it never was your ladder. Climb your own.
If you had an autobiography, what would you title it?
How to seem quiet, but be the loudest speaker in the room!
Name one hobby or other interest you have outside of tech?
Forex Trading. I have been trading now for around 5 years, having self-taught myself and fortunately never been caught by these awful social media scammers. There are millions of strategy’s online you can read into, simply take onboard the ones you like the look of, then go ahead and trade. Just remember to stick to your rules and remain patient.
Name one thing that you would like to have achieved within the next 5 years.
I would love to work alongside Microsoft in designing a new feature, a feature that would be used by your everyday licence holder. So one day I could hear someone say “This feature is amazing since it’s been updated”, and to know I had a part in that.
Do you have any role models or people that really inspire you within the industry? If so, could you name a few?
I wouldn’t single anyone out in particular, I have just grown to love LinkedIn. The content produced by so many individuals I follow keeps me up to date with the latest updates and technology. Now blog posts are great, but a YouTube guide is so much easier to follow, hint hint!
Great answers, thanks Carl!!
