Hi Jon, so tell me….

What's a typical day look like for you?

I always wake up early, doesn't matter if the kids wake me up or not, it just happens. I work from home predominantly, so either my wife or me will take the girls to school/nursery and then I'll settle in for the day of work in my new home office as we have just moved house. I usually pick up the kids in the afternoon as well, and then spend as much time with them as I can in the evening. Weekends are spent with family or out and about with the kids.

What is your favourite power platform feature and why?

It's a toss up between Power Automate and Power Virtual Agents, but I think feature wise, I love trigger conditions in a Power Automate flow. I can find writing them difficult, but I found a cheat! Use the Filter Array action, and then edit it in advanced mode - copy and paste wahoo !!

What do you love most about working in this industry?

Meeting new people and their passion for either the tech or the business problem they are trying to solve, with the help of the Power Platform. I love explaining the benefits of the Power Platform to people who have not come across it before and then when they get it, there is a real lightbulb moment. I chase those interactions, as I love that feeling of helping someone, it's infectious.

How did you get into the tech industry?

I did a Business and IT degree a long time ago, and from that got into IT. I then had two pretty long-term jobs back-to-back, and then finally discovered the Power Platform back in 2018. I then used the Power Platform to onboard volunteers during COVID in my home town to help elderly and vulnerable people and that then lead to someone spotting that I was using the Power Platform to do that. I then interviewed for a Microsoft Gold Partner and got the job. I really felt like, for the first time, a passion had turned into a tangible job. From then on, I was all in on the Power Platform.

What single bit of advice would you give a newbie to the industry?

Learn, be curious and expect to fail.

The last part of this I have found the hardest but from failure comes a learning opportunity, always. Embrace that opportunity and move on. I am always learning, whether that is reading blogs, on Microsoft Learn or preparing for a certification. I like to set myself little challenges to see what I can do. I recently built a pretty simple Canvas app for my daughter, who is in Year 1 at primary school. She needed to be able to add and subtract 1 from any number between 0 and 100 and to count up in 2s and 5s. So, the Adding and subtraction app was born (it needs a better name!). She uses it all the time.

If you had an autobiography, what would you title it?

Be your true self, always.

Name one hobby or other interest you have outside of tech?

DJing, I love music. I don't DJ as much as I used to. But you can quite often find me live streaming on YouTube or Twitch. Drum and bass or House music, nice !

Name one thing that you would like to have achieved within the next 5 years.

I would like to get to Solution Architect.

Do you have any role models within the industry? If so, could you name a few?

Yes, for sure. Jon Levesque, Paulie Murana, Aaron Gumbs, Chris Huntingford

Great answers, thanks Jon!!
