Hi Kelly, so tell me….

What's a typical day look like for you?

On my most recent project the typical day has been analysing the best way to build and send customer communications based on variation content within an email and filtering logic within a customer journey whilst considering the segment/ audience profile information provided.

What is your favourite power platform or D365 feature and why?

My favourite D365 feature has to be Real Time Marketing email capabilities and the ability to vary content based on a segment or custom trigger attribute.

What do you love most about working in this industry?

I love the challenge and satisfaction of providing a solution that solves quite complex needs. Particularly where Marketing is concerned! (No surprise there!)

How did you get into the tech industry?

I'd always wanted to get into tech but never really knew how with having a Psychology Degree and predominantly marketing background. I joined the CIT program having had conversations and realising that my Marketing and Data Analytics knowledge could be applied to the D365 platform. I love that I can use my knowledge of creating marketing campaigns and organising events etc to help clients achieve this through the platform!

What do you think are the top 3 most important skills/qualities to have in this industry?

Collaboration and communication with team members on your project is definitely key to achieving set deadlines. It's a must. The is no I in Team after all. Willingness to learn from others. I think being open minded to other people's ideas and knowledge of the platform allows you to ensure you're creating a solution that works best that it can. As we know there are potentially multiple ways that you can use the platform to achieve the same outcome. So learning how others have achieved a similar outcome and the pros and cons of building the product a particular way, really helps in the long run. Finally, I think you have to be someone who isn't scared of a challenge and can simplify complexity.

What single bit of advice would you give a newbie to the industry?

Talking through personal experience... Having been on the CIT program the first couple of weeks I really thought to myself "what on earth have I got myself into here?!". The terminology in this industry was completely new to me, it might as well have been in another language. I really didn't understand half of it. My advice is take it day by day and stick with it, because all of a sudden it all starts coming together and you know it you're just doing it. So yeah, don't worry too much and accept that every day will be a school day.

If you had an autobiography, what would you title it?

The quiet life of Kelly... JOKING!

There is never a dull, quiet moment, I embrace the chaos of a family home with a 4 year old who has taken over the daily television, a miniature dachshund that loves to chew and destroy everything that lands on the floor and I've now added a new-born to the mix who goes through 4 lots of baby grows a day. I love the chaos of it all and wouldn't change a thing. It's my two children Olivia and Joseph that push me to be the best that I can be and achieve more. As for my miniature dachshund... It is a good job Arlo is cute!

Name one hobby or other interest you have outside of tech?

Being out in the fresh air, I just love walking. I absolutely hate the thought of hiking though. I'm a walker not an explorer!

Name one thing that you would like to have achieved within the next 5 years.

Professionally ... I want to be at a level of Solution Architect. Having the bigger picture in mind.

Do you have any role models or people that really inspire you within the industry? If so, could you name a few?

OK so firstly marketing wise its no surprise that Megan Walker is on the list. Her knowledge of the platform is inspiring Secondly shout out to Alex Yeoman! He is literally a fountain of knowledge and I have learnt so much from him whilst on project the last 12 months!

Great answers, thanks Kelly!
