Hi Oluwatobi, so tell me…
What's a typical day look like for you?
A typical working day starts with little meditation then I quickly freshen up and set out to work by 5:30am. I spend 2 to 3 hours in transit due to traffic and distance. On transit, I love listening to good music, podcasts or audiobooks. At work, I join the daily stand up meeting to speak on what my team plan to achieve for the day. I work for 8 hours with an hour break in between. I leave work at 5 pm. On my way home, I listen to audiobooks, watch some Power Platform tutorials videos, also attend community meetings if any. When I get home, I work on my personal projects for self development. I also give about an hour to attend to people who have questions on Power Platform before retiring to bed. I am allowed few days to work from home, for those days, I spend the hours on transit solely for self development. On weekends, I spend more time to rest, I attend seminars or tech conferences if any.
What is your favourite power platform feature and why?
It will be the newly announced feature during Microsoft Ignite, Natural Language Processing in Power Automate where users just describe their process and AI build the flow for them. Now, non-techies or people with zero knowledge of tech can build simple flow to automate their process. What do you love most about working in this industry? Inclusion is the word. With Power Platform, anyone and everyone can solve business problems and add value without any prior knowledge or experience in tech.
How did you get into the tech industry?
My journey into the tech industry is quite funny. I had always wanted to learn a
tech skill from my school days. I started with R then I moved to Python, then C Sharp. I learnt the fundamentals of these languages before graduating from school in 2019. In my country, after graduation you are expected to go for a year compulsory service which I did from 2020 to 2021. After my service year, I applied for an internship role to a Microsoft partner company where I was introduced to Power Platform. In my first week, I felt in love with Power platform and I grew on with the platform ever since.
What do you think are the top 3 most important skills/qualities to have in this industry?
Persistence: when starting out as a newbie, a lot of things might not work as you expect or desire. You need to persist and not give up. Watch more YouTube videos, keep reading documentation, soon you will master the skill Willingness to always learn: Tech is also changing. Same with Power Platform, there are new releases frequently. You need to be willing to learn to keep up with the unending change. Discipline: without discipline, you will definitely become obsolete in the tech industry.
What single bit of advice would you give a newbie to the industry?
If you are disciplined and determined, you can achieve whatever you set your mind to do
If you had an autobiography, what would you title it?
Tobi did it, you can too😇 Name one hobby or other interest you have outside of tech? I don’t really have much time outside tech but I occasionally watch movies with friends. Once in a while, I spent time in my dad’s farm. He has a fish farm.
Name one thing that you would like to have achieved within the next 5 years.
In 5 years, I want to have travelled round almost all the African countries educating and empowering young minds with the power of Power Platform and Low-Code.
Do you have any role models or people that really inspire you within the industry? If so, could you name a few?
I have a lot of people that have inspired me both directly and indirectly. First will be my parents, I learnt to hardworking, persistent and never give up from them. Another person that inspire me is Olanrewaju Oyinbooke, he is so passionate about the community. I learnt that from him. I can’t leave out Omolola Alfred, she was in charge of onboarding me when I started my power platform journey. She is one of the person that made me love the Power platform. I will also like to acknowledge my mentors from afar Reza Dorrani, Daniel Christian, April Dunnam, Darren Neese, Matthew Devaney, I follow their content weekly. They have been of tremendous help to me. Finally, the Microsoft community at large have inspired me. Every member of the community are always eager to assist when you need help.
Great answers, thanks Oluwatobi!!
